Story Core: Meet Patti
Patti lived on a 10-acre property, but increasing health challenges made it impossible for her to maintain the property and her home. Consequently, she moved into an apartment.
Patti requires a wheelchair for mobility and no longer drives. So, when the need for dialysis arose, she faced a daunting dilemma. In order to receive reliable, specialty transportation to her three-times-a-week dialysis treatments, it cost her $70 each way. Missing dialysis was not an option. Unable to afford both housing and transportation, Patti faced an unimaginable dilemma.
“Medicaid covers my dialysis, but it doesn’t cover the cost of transportation,” she explained. “I was about to lose my apartment.”
Then a social worker at the dialysis center made a connection with LIFE Senior Services. Patti recalled, “LIFE called and said they were going to start taking me to treatments. I am so grateful to get the help, I didn’t know what I would do. Thank you!”

But through talking to Erin (LIFE, LPC and case manager), she guided me in the right direction.”
